Who is AMK Dental Clinic?
AMK Dental Clinic is a family and cosmetic dental practice in Mortlake, in Sydney’s Inner West, offering general and children’s dentistry, Invisalign, dental implants, Zoom whitening, CEREC same-day crowns and microscope-assisted dentistry.
The practice is locally owned and looks after individuals and families of all ages, from a child’s first dental visit through to adult restorative and cosmetic care. Our aim is to explain your options clearly, give you a written estimate before treatment, and let you decide at your own pace.
Dental care at AMK is led by Dr Ali Khalessi (Dentist), a general dentist who holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago (2001) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Periodontology), and is a Member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (MRACDS). What dental services does AMK Dental Clinic offer?

- Check-ups and prevention: a regular check-up and clean is a routine visit that looks for decay, gum disease and other problems early. The Australian Dental Association suggests seeing your dentist every 6 or 12 months, even if nothing hurts.

What technology is used at AMK Dental Clinic?
AMK Dental Clinic uses CEREC, a dental operating microscope, Digital Smile Design and a Philips Zoom whitening lamp. Here is what each one does, in plain terms.
CEREC is a computer-aided design and milling system that lets a dentist scan a prepared tooth, design a ceramic crown on screen and mill it in the clinic. A dental operating microscope is a magnifying and lighting instrument that gives the dentist an enlarged, well-lit view of the tooth during treatment. It can be used for procedures such as root canal treatment and fillings. Read more about microscope-assisted dentistry.

I’m a new patient. How do fees and health funds work?
New patients can book a first appointment at AMK Dental Clinic online or by calling (02) 9739 6525. Your first visit usually starts with a medical and dental history, an examination and any X-rays you need, followed by a discussion of your options and costs. Our new patients page explains what to bring and what to expect.
We offer on-the-spot health fund claiming through HICAPS, so if you have extras cover you pay only the gap, if there is one, on the day. AMK Dental Clinic is a Medibank Members’ Choice provider. How much your fund pays depends on your level of cover, annual limits and waiting periods.
Families who receive certain government payments may be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which is a Medicare program that helps with the cost of basic dental services for children aged 0 to 17. If you have a dental emergency, such as severe toothache, swelling or a knocked-out tooth, please phone us rather than booking online so we can advise you on what to do next.
What should I do in a dental emergency?
Call AMK Dental Clinic on (02) 9739 6525 as soon as you can and we will advise you on the next steps. Outside opening hours you can call the healthdirect helpline on 1800 022 222 for advice from a registered nurse. Go to a hospital emergency department if you have swelling that affects breathing, swallowing or your eye, or bleeding that will not stop, and call 000 if life is at risk.
